About Psychedelic Preparation & Integration

  • Psychedelic preparation coaching is a crucial part of the psychedelic experience & journey.

    This type of coaching helps individuals safely & ethically prepare for the use of psychedelics, as a part of their own healing.

    This is a core component of our Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy program, however, we also offer this type of coaching to anyone who is interested in or is currently engaging in working with non-ordinary states of consciousness .

    Whether engaging in non-ordinary states of consciousness work in a therapeutic setting with us, with a trained provider elsewhere, or on your own - psychedelic preparation coaching is paramount for reducing risks such as aversive reactions, helping develop personal intentions & enhancing overall therapeutic benefits.

  • Psychedelic Integration Coaching refers to a type of coaching that individuals engage in, as a party of psychedelic assisted therapy and/or after a medicine journey.

    This is a core component of our own Psychedelic Assisted Therapy programs, however, we also offer this to individuals who have recently engaged in medicine work elsewhere.

    It involves working with a trained professional to help you make sense of your experience & integrate insights into every day life.

  • This type of coaching is appropriate for anyone currently interested in, or engaging in, any of our psychedelic assisted therapy treatments offered via Spear, or elsewhere.

    It is also appropriate for anyone who is interested in working with altered states of consciousness with us, with a different trained provider elsewhere, or on their own.

  • In Psychedelic Preparation Coaching, you can expect to discuss the following items:

    • Careful medical screening

    • Psycho-education around psychedelic assisted therapy

    • History Taking (trauma mapping)

    • Internal Resourcing & developing tools to navigate and/or enhance your experience

    • Assessment of readiness

    • Discussion dietary preparation as needed

    • Discussions around set, setting & dose

    • Developing Intentions

    • Establishing a safe & trusting therapeutic relationship

    • Parts work to explore parts emerging in anticipation of your experience

    In Psychedelic Integration Coaching, you can expect the following:

    • Putting together pieces from your journey & meaning making

    • Learning how to apply insights from your experience into everyday life

    • Unpacking & processing any disturbing material and/or unsettled material

Psychedelic Preparation & Integration

  • Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) for Psychedelic Preparation and Integration

    EMDR has the potential to build the bridge between psychedelic therapy and effective trauma-informed practice due to the number of similarities between the models and approaches to trauma treatment. EMDR has been shown to be an effective way to help individuals during both the preparation and integration phases of psychedelic-assisted therapy.

    For preparation, EMDR can be used to uncover themes and memories that may arise during psychedelic experiences. This allows trauma processing work to occur prior to the medicine session, enabling deeper therapeutic work to unfold within psychedelic therapy.

    For integration, EMDR serves as a tool to help individuals process challenging experiences encountered during their psychedelic journey. It facilitates confronting material that arose, allowing for the processing of meaning, body sensations, and emotions associated with the content experienced.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) for Psychedelic Preparation & Integration

    IFS is a therapeutic tool that can be used to help individuals prepare for their psychedelic journey, by exploring internal parts that are holding fears or agendas relating to their upcoming experience and/or blocking the process in some way.

    IFS can also be used to do ‘healing’ work with parts prior to a psychedelic journey, to lay the foundation for deeper work to unfold.

    Psychedelics can often bring up painful memories + emotions. IFS can support integration by working with the parts that hold onto the traumatic memories + stuck emotions, to work towards internal harmony.

    Additionally, IFS can be helpful to work with parts that are resistance towards making meaningful changes & integrating new insights into everyday life.

  • Hakomi for Psychedelic Preparation & Integration

    Hakomi method focuses on present moment awareness and the mind-body connection which is a helpful tool for developing internal resources in preparation of psychedelic experiences.

    Alternately, Hakomi can assist with integration of psychedelic experiences & non-ordinary states of consciousness by use of it’s mindfulness & somatic tools for healing & treating trauma.

  • Jungian Psychology for Psychedelic Preparation & Integration

    Jung’s concept of individuation, integrating unconscious material into consciousness is highly relevant to psychedelic therapy & integration.

    Jungian framework parallels psychedelic assisted therapy, potentially facilitating a deeper understanding of the psyche.

    Jungian’s theories + principles can be used within psychedelic preparation & integration to help synthesize the mind & body after a psychedelic experience and explore insights that arise.
